dear partners in prayer:
greetings in jesus’s name:
first, we want to thank you for praying for the elections in sudan. we are so grateful that peace has remained in the whole country despite some obvious setbacks in reaching the ideal of ‘a free and fair elections’. the contest for the governor position in the state ended when the independent candidate stepped down after the voting finished. (if you wish to know more about the elections, hyperlink "http://www.sudantribune.com" www.sudantribune.com is a relatively good site detailed news)
secondly, i want to share with you my joy that you may also rejoice in what jesus had done through your prayers. yesterday, i joined peter kiir (one of the church planters in training) to the opening service in a new community called pan tiit. after two months of evening meetings (4 nights/week) of singing, bible teaching and prayer, the core group of believers were ready to start regular lord’s day worship.
when we arrived we were welcomed by a procession of singers with a joy that was contagious. we were then escorted to a makeshift shelter (for peter and myself) that faced two columns of benches made from cut branches. stretched out above it all was a canopy of shade provided by a ‘parasite’ tree that has wrapped itself around a palm tree.
just before beginning of the service, all heads turned to see a group of people approaching in the distance. they were a delegation from the lol madiing fellowship coming to encourage the new fellowship which they had helped get started. many people ran out to welcome them in the field and return to the church together.
what was most encouraging from the day was the leadership of peter kiir. the lord has obviously endowed him with the gift to preach. pray for continued growth in the grace and knowledge of the lord jesus christ. pray also for john akot who has turned from worshiping idols and who has called a great number from his community to join him in worshipping the living god.
thank you for your prayers. we rejoice at the growth in all the churches both in the number of joyful worshippers and depth of knowledge of the god’s word. while the church is growing, satan is working hard against us. pray for protection for our team and especially for the sheep under our care.
rejoicing in our savior,
vince for the sudan team
